Off The Grid Fitness prides itself on creating change and influencing our community, while being the first eco-friendly fitness center in Arizona. We are constantly challenging ourselves to make Off The Grid Fitness a completely green fitness alternative, while incorporating opportunities for community involvement and education. Our efforts include recycling, reducing energy and water usage, using environmentally friendly products throughout the gym, and fostering green initiatives in the community. Personal health, longevity, and planetary sustainability all connect in the gym experience at Off The Grid Fitness.
For our initial remodel we reused as much construction material as possible, reusing doors, frames, fans, mirrors, original lighting and drop ceilings. The flooring in the free weight workout area is made from recycled rubber, typically old rubber tires. By using recycled rubber flooring we are keeping scrap rubber from sitting in landfills and putting it to good use as durable and green flooring. We further recycled by purchasing gym equipment that has been refurbished to work like brand new equipment; gym equipment that would otherwise have been discarded. By using remanufactured gym equipment, like other recycled material, we are keeping trash out of landfills- and they look great in our gym! Lastly, we have encouraged recycling at the Acacia Creek center something that was not implemented when we first signed our lease.
At its core, fitness is all about energy. Off The Grid Fitness lets you make sure the energy you use during a workout is not only good for you, but also for the community. Most of our cardio machines are either self powered or return energy back to the “grid”. This means that the energy of the person on the cardio machine is actually producing “positive” energy being used to light streets, listen to the radio, or charge their laptop. Every time someone works out, they are actually helping provide power to the gym or even someone else in your city!
Compact fluorescent lights which are more energy efficient than traditional fluorescent lights, are also used throughout the gym, as well as low power consuming appliances such as special LED tv monitors. Water is an incredibly valuable resource, so our bathrooms are designed to conserve water by using high quality low flow appliances. Dual flush toilets, low flow faucets, and low-flow showerheads all conserve water without compromising your shower experience. Low flow appliances cut water usage in half!
The floors in our group fitness studios are bamboo, one of the most sustainable flooring products on the market. After being cut, bamboo regrows into mature fiber in three and a half to seven years.
Off The Grid Fitness seeks to foster a communal space where residents of Scottsdale and greater Phoenix community can learn about green initiatives. Our gym is more than just a place to work out and lift weights; it’s about people and their community. We are a total mind and body fitness center working towards a healthier community and a healthier planet.
