Our BMI (Body Mass Index) calculator works out the ratio between your weight and height so you can see if you're within a healthy weight range.Current medical research recommends a body mass index between 20 and 25 for optimum health. The World Health Organization classifies a BMI of 25 to 30 as overweight and over 30 as obese.

However, BMI is a rough guide only. It can't distinguish whether your weight is composed of fat or muscle, meaning it fails to take body type into account. It is a good indicator, but one of many.
